Ingredients
SEED LOAF BREAD
- 50 ml (60 g) Huletts Golden Syrup
- 1 X 10 g sachet instant yeast
- 600 ml warm water
- 350 g (580 ml) whole wheat flour
- 160 g (1 ½ cups) oats
- 150 g (220 ml) crushed wheat
- 75 g (100 ml) poppy seeds, reserve 5 ml
- 150 g (210 ml) sunflower seeds, reserve 5 ml
- 15 ml (1 T) oil
- 15 ml (1 T) salt
Method
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease and line the base of a bread tin (23 cm x 12 cm x 9 cm).
- Place the golden syrup, yeast and 100 ml of the warm water in a bowl and set aside for 5 minutes.
- Combine the rest of the ingredients with the remaining 500 ml (2 cups) of warm water. Add the yeast mixture and mix well.
- Spoon the mixture into the bread tin, sprinkle with the reserved seeds and allow to rise for 20 minutes.
- Bake for about an hour.

No Baking Powder?
Test Baking Powder for freshness
Add half a teaspoon of baking powder to 2 tablespoons of warm water. This should cause an instant reaction with bubbles and foam. If not, then the baking powder is not fresh.
